DocuViz: Visualize the Evolution of Authors' Contributions in a Google Doc
DocuViz is a free Chrome add-on developed by Dakuo Wang and his team at Hana Research Lab, University of California, Irvine. This powerful tool allows users to visualize the evolution of authors' contributions in a co-authored document on Google Docs.
With DocuViz, users can easily track and understand the editing history of a document. The add-on color codes each author's edits, providing a visual representation of who edited what, when, and where. The timeline flows from left to right, with darker columns representing revision content and lighter columns representing the links between revisions. This historyflow view offers a comprehensive overview of the document's evolution, as well as insights into the collaboration patterns of co-authors.
The initial version of DocuViz was developed by Dakuo Wang and Jingwen Zhang, with Kenny Pham being the primary developer for the current plugin. The HistoryFlow visualization technique used in DocuViz was invented by Fernanda Viegas and Martin Wattenberg. The team also acknowledges James Somers for his valuable advice on obtaining accurate data from Google Docs without using the Google API.
